Rediscovering Yourself and Passion After 40

Life has a funny way of throwing curveballs when we least expect them. For many women over 40, these unexpected twists can leave us feeling lost, questioning our purpose, and wondering where our passion has gone. Whether it's an empty nest, a career shift, divorce, or simply a growing sense that something's missing, major life changes can be scary and overwhelming.

The Journey of Rediscovery

But this chapter of your life isn't about loss - it's about rediscovery. Most of the things I have accomplished didn't start until 2015, and by that time, I was 38. Remember that girl who dreamed big when everyone else said "be realistic," who laughed loud when everyone else was quiet, and did what she wanted with no approval needed? She's still in there, waiting for you to acknowledge her presence and let her live. Now's your chance to reconnect with her with the wisdom and confidence that only come with four decades of living.

Starting Your Journey

So, where do you start? Get your pen and paper ready to jot down your thoughts. Remember, don't overthink it; just write down what comes to mind.

Reconnect with Your Style

  1. What colors have you always wanted to add to your wardrobe or makeup?

Revisit Old Passions

  1. What interests have you pushed aside? What skills have you neglected?

Listen to Your Inner Voice

  1. What's that little voice telling you about your desires and values?

Find Inspiring Company

  1. Surround yourself with women who are thriving in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, and beyond. Slow down and talk to someone who represents you in 20 years and someone who represents you 20 years ago. (Below I share a quick interaction I had with a 79-year-old and what I learned).

Take Action

  1. Take action (even tiny steps count): Start that blog, sign up for that class, or simply have that conversation you've been putting off. Movement creates momentum.

Embrace Your Worth

Finding your purpose isn't about grand or dramatic changes (it can be, though). It's about reconnecting with what truly lights you up inside. Maybe it's volunteering at an animal shelter, learning to code, or finally writing that novel. Whatever it is, embrace it with the fierce determination of a woman who knows her worth.

Your 40s and beyond can be the most fulfilling years of your life. You've earned it!

Storytime

About a month ago, I was in the local grocery store looking at their selection of fresh nuts (specifically, pistachios, which are great to help you sleep). There was an older lady looking at the bananas, and we started talking. Thirty minutes later, I knew her life story and how she made it a priority to move every day, averaging 16,000 steps. We also talked about protein and collagen supplements. This 79-year-old lady, who I would have guessed was 65, was confirmation to me. She was moving around with no issues, shopping, and helping out her daughter who owned a daycare. Goals! She confirmed to me that the knowledge I share and the things I learn are valuable. She also mentioned she couldn't get her husband to move off the couch, and his health was suffering because of it. But it didn't stop her. Lesson learned: people can see what taking care of your wellness does for you, but you cannot make them do the same. Funny thing is, I don't remember her name and probably wouldn't recognize her if I saw her again. What matters is sometimes, you get confirmation you are on the right path...from a stranger.

What passions are you rediscovering? I'd love to hear your stories in the comments below!
